School Based Support - Classified Positions - Mechanic
Transports equipment at various School district locations. Performs maintenance and a variety of major and minor repairs on school buses, trucks and other automotive equipment.
Diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects in automotive equipment; repairs and rebuilds brakes, ignition and carburetor systems.
Overhauls transmissions and differentials; tunes motor; grinds valves; repairs electrical motors, automotive accessories, and other equipment.
Inspects parts for wear using calipers, micrometers and thickness gauges; repairs or replaces automotive parts such as shock absorbers, pistons, rods, gears, valves and bearings.
Installs and replaces headlights, heaters, mirrors and windshield wipers; rewires ignition system, lights and instrument panel.
Makes service calls for disabled vehicles and tows to garages when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of:
the principles, methods and procedures governing the automotive mechanic’s trade.
the mechanics of the internal combustion engine.
the tools and materials used in the trade.
the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Demonstrated skill in:
diagnosing, locating and adjusting defects in automotive equipment.
the care and use of tools of the trade.
Demonstrated ability to:
accurately follow oral and written directions.
establish and maintain effective working relationships
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three years of full-time, paid, journeyman level experience in the repair of trucks and/or buses.
Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with the removal of the air brake restriction, valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to and during tenure of appointment.
Possession of a valid Class 7 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certificate.
Possession of a valid Class 8 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Emission Certificate.
