Drive and manage school bus for the safe transportation of students. This is a non-benefited position. Upon completion of CDL training; there is opportunity to advance to benefit eligible bus driver position.
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
A desire to work with children is required. Experience driving a school bus is preferred, but not required. Must be able to attend and successfully complete our in-house training.
MUST obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Learner's Permit* (through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles) with the following required endorsements:
(a) General Knowledge
(b) Air Brake
(c) Passenger Transport
(d) School Bus
* MUST be at least 21 years age to be eligible.
Operate and manage assigned school bus, observing all safety regulations and appropriate laws.
Supervise and maintain discipline when students are on the school bus; enforce regulations for student behavior; and report undisciplined students to the Principal and a Transportation Assistant Supervisor.
Maintain ability to execute transportation and evacuation plans.
Perform certain preventative maintenance checks, complete and maintains pre-trip inspection log before each run, and report defects to proper authority.
Assist special needs studetns in boarding school bus (using mechanical lift) as required.
Comply with all Federal, State of Indiana, Indiana State Police and the Board of School Commissioners rules, regulations, and directions concerning pupil transportation and policies.
