PUBLIC RELATIONS DIVISION MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Indianapolis Public Schools Public Relations Division (IPS PRD) is to consistently deliver high-quality service to all stakeholders by developing innovative and engaging promotions; providing timely, accurate and relevant information; enhancing community outreach and supports; and showcasing outstanding accomplishments.
Under general supervision performs a variety of administrative duties to support the activities of the Public Relations Division. The Graphic Designer is responsible for combining elements of art and technology to create design solutions that have a high visual impact and concisely convey messages or distinctly identify district products, services and initiatives. The role involves listening to clients and understanding their needs in order to determine project scope. The Graphic Designer will use text and images to develop original content for various informational and promotional materials that are required for websites, advertising, presentations, publications, posters, computer software, video production, product packaging, exhibitions and displays, diagrams depicting complex statistical information, corporate communications, logos and brand identity. This position serves as an integral element of the Public Relations Division and reports to the Chief Strategist.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field and three years field experience or completion of an accredited graphic design technical training program and five years commensurate experience. Evidence of a robust and successful design portfolio (including print design, advertising, and three dimensional and 4 dimensional pieces) demonstrating expert level in Adobe Illustrator and working knowledge of other design software. Ability to think creatively and justify concepts to clients and team members. Proven aptitude for quick creative thinking with acute attention to detail for concurrent projects within demanding deadlines. Exemplary collaborative, time management and customer service skills required.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, charts, graphs and graphic organizers. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group and public meeting situations to customers, clients, and employees.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to develop and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Advanced problem solving ability; able to quickly and successfully deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and episodic situations.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
No certificates required; however, scheduling, logistics, customer service, guest services or hospitality certification preferred.
